Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
2 1/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. soda
Preparation

Cream shortening with sugar, add eggs.
Make paste of cocoa and red color.
Stir into creamed mixture.
Sift flour and salt together then with mixer at medium speed, add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Blend well; add vanilla.
Combine vinegar and soda and while still foaming add to batter.
Do not beat, add gently.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
Makes two 9-inch layers.
