Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter (not margarine)
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1 c. light corn syrup
    1 can sweetened condensed milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Melt butter in heavy saucepan.
    Add sugar and stir well.
    Stir in corn syrup and mix well.
    Gradually add milk, stirring constantly.
    Cook and stir to a firm ball stage (245\u00b0).
    Remove from heat and add vanilla.
    Pour in greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Cool; cut in squares.
    Wrap in waxed paper.
