French Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter
    2 Tbsp. olive oil
    2 lb. onions, peeled and sliced
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. flour
    6 c. condensed beef broth
    2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    1 bay leaf
    8 slices French bread
    Gruyere cheese
Preparation
    Heat butter and oil in large kettle.
    Stir in onions; cook, covered, for about 20 minutes, until onions are transparent. Uncover.
    Add salt, garlic and sugar.
    Increase heat and continue cooking for 20 minutes, until onions are rich, golden brown. Sprinkle flour over onions, then cook for a few minutes.
    Add broth.
    Cook, covered, for 20 to 30 minutes on low heat.
    Pour soup into individual oven-safe bowls.
    Place 1 slice toasted French bread and cheese on top.
    Bake in oven at 450\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
