Iceberg Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 qt. cucumbers (4 to 6-inches long)
    2 Tbsp. alum
    16 c. white sugar
    2 Tbsp. salt
    4 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices, tied in a bag
    2 qt. white vinegar
    2 tsp. green food coloring (maybe a little more)
Preparation
    1st Day:
    Put cukes in 3-gallon crock (whole).
    Pour 1 gallon of boiling water over them.
    Let stand 24 hours.
    Repeat this the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days.
