Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
2 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
1 1/2 c. ice water
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Sift and add alternately with ice water, flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
Melt squares of chocolate.
Add to batter and bake in a 350\u00b0 oven until cake springs back when touched in the middle.
