Vidalia Onion Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    2 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. celery salt
    1 tsp. powdered mustard
    1 gal. chopped onions
    1/2 c. salt
    ice to cover chopped onions
Preparation
    Sprinkle salt on chopped onions and cover with ice.
    Let stand 2 1/2 hours (very important).
    Squeeze onions out of salt and ice mixture. Mix sugar, vinegar, turmeric, celery salt and mustard. Bring to boil.
    Drop squeezed onions into vinegar mixture.
    Heat and pack in sterile jars.
