Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 c. cucumbers
    2 c. onions
    2 c. vinegar
    2 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. turmeric
    1 (3-inch) stick cinnamon
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. mustard seed
    1/2 c. canning salt
Preparation
    Combine sliced
    (1/4-inch)
    cucumbers
    and onions. Sprinkle generously (1/2 cup) with canning salt. Let stand 1 hour. Drain off salt water. Put plenty of ice cubes over cukes and onions and let stand 1 hour. Drain off water. Combine with other ingredients. Mix well. Bring to a simmer and simmer 2 minutes. Avoid boiling (it softens the slices). Pack in sterilized jars.
