90 Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers (small pack better)
    4 Tbsp. alum
    2 Tbsp. allspice
    2 Tbsp. cloves
    4 Tbsp. salt
    vinegar to cover cucumbers
    6 c. sugar
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers; pack in big mouth, glass gallon jar.
    Cover cucumbers with vinegar and add alum, allspice, cloves and salt. Put on jar lid and leave it for 90 days.
    At the end of 90 days, drain off vinegar and spices, then slice the cucumbers and return to gallon jar.
    Cover with sugar; set aside and occasionally tilt jar to help melt the sugar.
    The sugar will draw the vinegar out of the pickles to make a liquid to cover the pickles.
    You may put in smaller jars and seal.
    These are good pickles and so easy to make.
