Royal Fudge - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1/2 c. cocoa
    1 c. milk
    2 Tbsp. butter or oleo
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Mix together sugar and cocoa in a heavy saucepan.
    Add milk. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved, then bring to boil. Stir occasionally and cook to 234\u00b0 or until drops of the mixture form a soft ball in cold water.
    (This ball should flatten a bit when taken from the water.)
    Remove from heat.
    Add butter and vanilla but do not stir.
    Allow to cool to lukewarm, then beat until mixture thickens.
    Stir in nuts and quickly pour into a buttered 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
    Cut in squares.
    Makes about 1 3/4 pounds.
