Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. cold water
    2 c. cider vinegar
    1/4 tsp. powdered alum
    3/4 c. pickling salt
    4 fresh dill or dill seed
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
Preparation
    Boil all ingredients.
    Cut and rinse cucumbers.
    Put in jars and put a piece of fresh dill or dill seed and 1/4 teaspoon alum in each jar.
    Cover with mix to top; set aside with lids on for 6 days, then put in dark place for 8 weeks.
