Turtle Cake - cooking recipe

1 box German chocolate cake mix, prepared as directed
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
3/4 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped pecans
Cool Whip
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
Pour half the cake batter into pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
