Rotkohl (Red Cabbage) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. red cabbage
    2 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 small onion, sliced
    2 c. water
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. applesauce
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    pinch of nutmeg
    pinch of ground cloves
    pinch of ginger
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch, mixed with 1/2 c. water
Preparation
    Grate cabbage coarsely.
    Place in bowl.
    Add vinegar.
    Let sit until cabbage turns bright red.
