Butter Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. (2 sticks) margarine
    1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Cream the butter in a large mixing bowl.
    Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
    Beat in egg and vanilla.
    Mix flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt.
    Gradually add to creamed mixture.
    Shape dough according to variations and bake in a 400\u00b0 oven on unbuttered baking sheets.
    Chill dough.
