Meringue Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
1/2 c. (3 large) egg whites (at room temperature)
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cider vinegar
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 tsp. orange flavored liqueur
1 c. mini chocolate chips (optional)
    food coloring (optional)
    1 Tbsp. confectioners sugar
Preparation
In a large bowl, beat the egg whites with the salt until they are frothy.
Add the vinegar and beat the whites until they hold soft peaks.
Beat in the granulated sugar, a little at a time, and food coloring, if desired, until it holds stiff, glossy peaks. Beat in the liqueur and chocolate chips, if desired.
Spoon level tablespoons of mixture 2 inches apart onto baking sheets lined with foil, shiny side down.
Sift the confectioners sugar lightly over meringues and bake in a preheated 300\u00b0 oven for 35 to 45 minutes.
Turn off oven and leave the meringues in the oven with the door closed for about 4 hours or until they are firm.
Let the meringues cool on racks and store them in airtight containers. Makes about 45 cookies.
