Cherry Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. margarine, softened to room temperature
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 c. cake flour
    1 c. chopped walnuts
    confectioners sugar
    1 can cherry pie filling
Preparation
    Cream margarine and sugar; add vanilla.
    Stir in eggs, 1 at a time.
    Stir in flour; add nuts if desired and mix well.
    (All done in a large mixing bowl).
    Spread 3/4 of the batter in 9 x 13-inch ungreased baking pan.
    Top with the pie filling and spread remaining batter over the top (in swirls, will not cover completely).
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 45 minutes.
    Cool, then sprinkle with sifted confectioners sugar.
    Cut into squares to serve.
