Nan'S Banana Nut Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. buttermilk
2 ripe bananas
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 small bottle maraschino cherries, chopped (optional)
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs, beating thoroughly. Add mashed bananas to this mixture gradually with buttermilk and vanilla.
Add nuts and chopped cherries.
Bake at about 300\u00b0 until done.
Use either 2 loaf pans (8 1/2 x 4 1/4 x 2 1/2-inch) or a square pan (9 x 9 x 2-inch).
Loaf pans make 8 to 10 slices each. With the square pan, cut into squares and serve with whipped cream and a cherry.
Can be served hot or cold.
