Christmas Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. shortening
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    3 eggs
    1/2 c. cocoa
    1/2 c. water
    2 1/8 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. buttermilk
    2 large boxes vanilla pudding
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and sugar; beat in thoroughly the eggs.
    Mix cocoa with water; add to the above.
    Add and beat until thoroughly mixed the flour, soda, salt, vanilla and buttermilk. Pour into loaf pan; bake at 300\u00b0 for 35 to 45 minutes.
    While cake is baking, prepare vanilla pudding according to directions.
    When cake is done, cut it into squares immediately.
    Put layer of cake in bottom and around sides of large serving dish.
    Alternate layering of pudding and cake.
    Cover with whipped topping. Decorate with maraschino cherries.
