German Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 small head red cabbage, shredded in long shreds removing core
    1 small chopped onion
    2-3 Tbsp. sugar
    1 Tsp. salt
    1 bay leaf
    2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
    1/4 cup water
    1 apple, peeled and chopped
    4 slices bacon, fried and crumbled
Preparation
    Place all ingredients except apple cider vinegar and bacon in large saucepan and simmer 15 minutes to tender.
    Add vinegar and apple.
    Cook another 5 minutes.
    Drain, remove bay leaf.
    Transfer to serving dish and add bacon crumbs.
