1-2-3-4 Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    2 c. sugar
    3 c. flour
    4 eggs
    1 c. milk
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts (optional; add near end of mixing)
Preparation
    Cream butter until soft and gradually cream in the sugar.
    Add the beaten yolks of eggs and vanilla.
    Beat well; sift the flour. Measure and sift with the baking powder.
    Add the milk and dry ingredients separately.
    Beat until smooth.
    Fold in stiffly beaten whites.
    Bake in greased tube pan at 375\u00b0 for 50 minutes, then turn to 325\u00b0 for 15 more minutes.
