Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. cucumbers
    1 lb. onion
    1 3/4 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. mustard
    1 tsp. ginger
    1/4 tsp. turmeric
    1/8 tsp. mace
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions; put into bowl.
    Cover with brine made from 5 cups water and 1/3 cup salt; soak for 24 hours. Drain.
    Combine cucumbers and onions with remaining ingredients. Bring to rolling boil.
    Pack into warm jars; seal or keep in the refrigerator.
