Southern Corn Muffins - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. corn meal
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 Tbsp. flour
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1 egg
    1 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation
    Mix corn meal in a 2-quart bowl.
    (Omit salt and baking powder when using self-rising meal.)
    Add milk gradually until mixture is firm.
    Add egg and melted shortening.
    Stir 1 minute, until smooth.
    Pour into warm greased muffin pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until done.
    Serve warm.
    Makes 12 servings.
