Bread And Butter "Crisp" Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. sliced pickles
    12 big onions, cut up
    1 pt. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    1 to 2 tsp. turmeric
    2 doz. whole cloves
Preparation
    Wash pickles and slice.
    Cut up onions. Work in 1/2 cup salt. Let stand for 2 hours. Drain liquid. Add the spices.
    Mix vinegar, sugar, cloves and turmeric and bring to a boil.
    Simmer (not boil) for a couple of minutes.
    Put in jars immediately. Makes 8 pints.
