Kraut(Old Way) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    firm cabbage heads
    salt
Preparation
    Chop or shred firm cabbage heads.
    In a 5 gallon crock, place alternating layers of
    cabbage
    and
    sprinklings of salt (about 1/2 cup of salt to\ta
    gallon
    of cabbage).
    Do not add water as the cabbage produces its own juice.
