Buttery Peanut Brittle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. light syrup
    1/2 c. water
    1 c. butter or margarine
    2 c. peanuts (dry roasted works)
    1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Combine sugar, syrup, and water in a 3 qt. saucepan.
    Cook and stir until sugar dissolves.
    When syrup boils, blend in butter. Stir frequently after mixture reaches 230\u00b0 on candy thermometer. Add nuts when temperature reaches 280\u00b0.
    Stir constantly until temperature reaches hard crack stage (305\u00b0).
    Remove from heat; quickly stir in baking soda, mixing thoroughly.
    Pour onto well-buttered cookie sheets. Spread as thin as possible with spoon.
    Let cool.
    Loosen from cookie sheets and break into pieces. Makes 2 1/2 pounds.
