Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/3 c. sorghum molasses
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 beaten egg
    3 1/2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream shortening with molasses.
    Add beaten egg.
    Mix all dry ingredients and add with milk.
    Beat to a stiff dough.
    Roll out to thickness of pie dough.
    Cut out with a scalloped pie pan. Place rounds of dough on a cookie sheet and bake 12 to 15 minutes. Put together with sweetened well flavored applesauce.
    Makes about 9 layers.
    Let set a few hours before serving.
    May use apple butter.
