Twyford Lodge Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. mutton or lamb
    2 onions, chopped
    salt and pepper
    6 potatoes
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 pt. stock or water
    1 small cabbage, shredded
Preparation
    Cut the meat into slices.
    Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the meat with chopped onions, stirring occasionally.
    Add the stock or water and seasoning and simmer for 1 hour.
    Lift out the meat and add the shredded cabbage and potatoes.
    Add more stock, if needed.
    Place meat on top of vegetables and braise until potatoes are tender.
    Serves 6.
