Old-Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
    2 Tbsp. fat
    4 c. boiling water
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 clove garlic
    1 medium onion, sliced
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    dash of allspice or cloves
    3 carrots
    5 potatoes
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. paprika
    1 lb. small onions
Preparation
    Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turning often.
    Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, sliced onion and seasonings.
    Cover; simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking.
    Add carrots, onions and potatoes.
    (Cut up carrots and potatoes.)
    Cover and cook 30 minutes more, or until vegetables are done.
    Thicken liquid for gravy.
