Mr. T'S Pasta Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 Tbsp. olive oil
    3 medium onions, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, crushed
    2 bay leaves, crushed
    pinch of anise seed (optional)
    3 basil leaves or 1 tsp. dried
    1 small can tomato paste
    2 (16 oz.) cans tomato sauce (Italian-style)
    1 (16 oz.) can peeled tomatoes
    salt and black and red pepper
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 1/4 lb. Italian sausage (from Ralph's supermarket)
Preparation
    In a heavy Dutch oven, saute onions in oil until tender; then add garlic and cook a few minutes longer. Add tomatoes, blend well and cook a few minutes. Add tomato paste and a can of water to blend with ingredients.
    Add tomato sauce and all other ingredients except sausage.
    Add enough water to correct consistency. Add sausage and simmer for 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
    Serve over vermicelli (very thin spaghetti) with hot crusty French bread and tossed green salad.
