Coconut Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
    2 c. milk
    3 egg yolks
    3 level Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 (12 oz.) box vanilla wafers, divided
    2 c. coconut, divided
    3 egg whites
    1/2 c. granulated sugar
Preparation
    To make the pudding:
    In a medium, heavy saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, milk, egg yolks and flour.
    Whisk together until smooth.
    Place over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 6 to 8 minutes.
    Add vanilla and butter and stir well.
    Line a 1 1/2-quart baking dish with half the vanilla wafers; top with half the coconut.
    Pour half the custard on top of that.
    Repeat all three layers.
