Grandmother'S Maple Syrup Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. packed firmly brown sugar
    1/2 c. maple syrup
    1/2 c. water
    4 Tbsp. butter
    4 Tbsp. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. milk
    2 eggs, separated
    1 unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
Preparation
    Mix sugar, syrup and water; bring to boil.
    Add butter to hot mixture.
    Mix flour, salt, milk and egg yolks.
    Add the hot syrup mixture to the thickening mixture, stirring constantly.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
    Pour into pie crust.
    Bake at 400\u00b0
    for 10 minutes.
    Reduce heat to 350\u00b0
    and cook until the filling is firm.
    The egg whites rise and become meringue as the pie bakes. Serve when cool.
