Fig Preserves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. figs
    1 c. soda
    7 c. sugar
    5 c. water
Preparation
    Sprinkle soda over figs.
    Pour 4 quarts boiling water over figs.
    Let set for 5 minutes, then pour cold water over figs, rinsing well.
    Boil sugar and water for a few minutes.
    Add well drained figs and boil until of desired thickness.
