Pecan Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. (1 pt.) light corn syrup
    1/2 c. real butter
    2 c. half and half
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation
    In large heavy saucepan, boil sugar and corn syrup to firm ball stage (245\u00b0), stirring occasionally.
    Add butter and half and half, stirring so slowly that syrup does not stop boiling at any time.
    Again cook rapidly, stirring constantly, to 245\u00b0.
    Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and nuts.
    Pour into well-buttered 9 x 9-inch pan.
    Cool.
    Cut into bite-sized pieces and wrap each in waxed paper.
