Granny'S Cornbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 1/4 c. white or yellow cornmeal
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. milk
    3 Tbsp. soft shortening or bacon drippings
Preparation
    Start oven heating to 425\u00b0.
    Generously grease a 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Place in oven to heat while mixing batter.
    Stir together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt.
    Beat egg; combine with milk.
    Add with shortening to dry ingredients all at one time; beat with rotary beater until smooth.
    Pour into heated pan.
    Bake in hot oven (425\u00b0) for 20 to 25 minutes, or just until set.
    Serve hot, cut into squares, with butter.
    Makes 9 servings.
