Christmas Morning Breakfast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 to 14 slices bread (I use Balloon Texas Toast bread)
    1 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
    3 c. cubed ham or 3 c. well cooked, crumbled sausage, well drained
    1 c. finely chopped onions (optional)
    1 can mushrooms (optional)
    1 doz. eggs, beaten with 1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Grease a 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
    Tightly fit slices of bread in a single layer on bottom of pan.
    Layer ham, cheese and other filling ingredients on top.
    End with another layer of tightly fitting bread.
    (You can trim the crust if you prefer.)
    Press down hard on bread to condense all.
    Pour eggs over entire pan. Cover pan and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
    (Can set as long as 24 hours.) Bake, covered, at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
