Czechoslovakian Babovka(Sponge Cake) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. active dry yeast
    1/2 c. lukewarm water
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    3 c. sifted flour
    1/2 c. soft butter
    1/2 c. sugar
    4 egg yolks, well beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 tsp. salt
    4 egg whites, beaten stiff
    1 c. blanched almonds, coarsely chopped
Preparation
    Dissolve yeast in warm water.
    Stir in tablespoon of sugar and set aside to rise for 15 minutes.
    Stir in 1 cup flour and let rise until spongy and light, about 30 minutes.
