Ingredients

2 3/4 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. butter flavored shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. almond extract
1/3 c. chopped almonds
Preparation

Mix flour, sugar, soda and salt in a bowl.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Add egg and almond extract.
Mix well. Add chopped almonds.
Mix well.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Take your thumb and press down on the center of the ball to flatten slightly.
Bake in slow oven at 325\u00b0 for 15 minutes.
