Potato Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 to 6 baking potatoes
    1 medium-sized yellow onion
    4 to 6 slices cooked ham
    salt
    coarsely ground pepper
    celery salt
    2 cloves garlic
    3 Tbsp. butter
    3 to 4 carrots
    milk
Preparation
    Bring a large kettle of water to a rolling boil with a dash of salt.
    Add peeled, sliced potatoes and carrots and boil for 20 minutes, until vegetables are fork tender.
    Drain half water and add milk to replace that amount.
    Add ham, chopped into bite-sized pieces, sliced onions, celery salt, coarsely ground pepper, 3 tablespoons butter and 2 cloves garlic (which have been finely chopped and gently sauteed in 1 tablespoon butter) to soup.
    Heat until soup comes to a gently boil.
    Serve immediately.
