Weatherman Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. dates, cut small
1 c. boiling water
1 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. soda
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Preparation

Mix the first 4 ingredients; let cool.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, flour and salt alternately with liquid.
Add vanilla; mix well.
Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Dribble chocolate chips and nuts over batter.
Bake for 40 minutes, or until done, in a 350\u00b0 oven.
Cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
