Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 (5 to 6 lb.) hen
3 qt. water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. milk
Preparation

Place chicken in Dutch oven; add water and salt.
Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
Simmer until tender.
Bone chicken; cut into bite-size pieces.
Bring broth to a boil; add pepper.
Combine flour, soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Cut in shortening.
Add milk; stir until ingredients are moistened.
Turn onto floured surface; knead (4 to 5 times).
Roll dough 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut in small square pieces.
Add to broth.
Reduce heat and cook 8 to 10 minutes.
Add chicken, stirring after each addition.
