Donna Mae'S Spice Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. allspice
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    1/2 c. lard or 2/3 c. shortening
    1 beaten egg
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. baking soda, mixed in a little water
    1 Tbsp. molasses
    1/2 c. raisins (optional)
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
    In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar and spices.
    Cut in lard or shortening like you would for pie dough.
    Add rest of ingredients; beat well.
    Bake in a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan or two 8 or 9-inch layer pans.
    Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
