Date Chocolate Chip Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 1/4 c. plus 3 Tbsp. flour
3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preparation

Combine dates, boiling water and 1 teaspoon soda.
Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.
Add eggs.
Sift together flour and remaining soda.
Mix with date mixture and shortening mixture. Turn into 9 x 13-inch pan or 2 (8 x 8-inch) pans.
Top with 1/2 cup sugar, chocolate chips and nuts.
Spread over cake and bake 30 minutes at 350\u00b0.
This is a good cake; you don't need any frosting.
