Terrific New England Clam Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 to 10 strips bacon
    1 large onion, chopped
    4 to 5 cans clams, minced (6 1/2 oz. can)
    8 c. diced potatoes
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 to 3 cans evaporated milk
Preparation
    In Dutch oven, cook and stir bacon until almost crisp.
    Add onion and continue cooking until onion is tender.
    Drain clams reserving liquid.
    Add clam liquid, potatoes and water to onion and bacon.
    (Drain bacon grease first.) Cook until potatoes are tender; stir frequently.
    About 20 minutes before serving, add clams, 2 cans of milk, salt and pepper.
    Heat through.
