Caramel Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    2 sticks margarine or butter
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine 2 1/2 cups of sugar, milk and butter.
    Mix well and cook over moderate heat.
    Take other 1/2 cup of sugar.
    Put in skillet over low heat until sugar melts (stir constantly).
    When melted, put into other boiling mixture and stir until sugar dissolves.
    Cook to soft ball stage (candy thermometer is nice to use).
    Add vanilla.
    Beat with mixer until a desired spreadable consistency is reached.
