German Beef Birds - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 beef round steak (2 lb.; 1/2-inch thick)
    6 Polish sausages or Smok-Y-Links hot dogs
    2 Tbsp. lard
    1 tsp. salt
    1 medium onion
    1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
    1 (2 lb.) can sauerkraut
    few caraway seed
Preparation
    Pound steak to 1/4-inch thickness.
    Cut into 6 pieces; place sausage on each roll.
    Fasten with toothpicks.
    Brown meat slowly in lard; drain.
    Season with salt.
    Add onion, tomato sauce, caraway seed and 1/2 the liquid from sauerkraut.
    Cover tightly; cook slowly for 1 hour.
    Add sauerkraut; continue to simmer for 30 minutes, until tender.
    Serves 6.
