Date Loaf Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 pkg. pitted dates
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. milk
    1 c. pecans (7 oz.)
Preparation
    Stir sugar and milk together over low heat until sugar is dissolved, then bring to a boil.
    Cook until mixture forms a soft ball in water or 238\u00b0 on thermometer.
    Add chopped dates; cook about 5 minutes longer.
    Remove and beat thoroughly.
    Add nuts and vanilla; beat until stiff enough to mold.
    Form in a long roll. Work on covered board with a damp cloth or powdered sugar.
