Orange-Date-Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening (1/2 butter and 1/2 Crisco)
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 trimmed orange rind
    2 1/4 c. flour (reserve 1/4 c. to coat nuts and dates)
    1 tsp. soda
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    1/2 c. pecans
    1 c. dates (small pieces)
Preparation
    Cream
    butter
    and
    sugar;
    add
    eggs and grated orange rind. Mix
    soda
    with
    2
    cups flour and add alternately with buttermilk.
    Add
    dates and pecans floured with 1/4 cup flour. Bake at 350\u00b0
    about
    1 hour.
    While cake bakes, mix juice of 1 orange, 1
    1/2 cups sugar and 2 tablespoons orange rind.
    Pour over cake while it's hot.
