Soupe 'A L'Oignon Au Gratin(French Onion Soup With Cheese) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium onions, thinly sliced
    1 stick butter or margarine
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt (optional)
    dash of ground nutmeg
    7 c. strong beef bouillon (canned or made with boullion cubes or half of each)
    1/4 c. sherry, Port or white wine
    6 slices French bread (thin), dried in oven
    grated Swiss cheese (about 2 to 3 Tbsp. for each serving)
Preparation
    Saute onions in butter until soft.
    Add sugar and nutmeg.
    Toss well.
    Cook down slightly until onions are a golden color.
    Add hot bouillon and bring to a boil.
    Add wine.
    Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
    Add salt if needed or to taste.
    Ladle soup into 6 ovenproof bowls or pots and top each with 1 piece of bread and grated cheese.
    Cook in preheated 300\u00b0 oven for 10 minutes or under broiler until cheese is melted and bubbly.
    Serves 6.
