Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers
    6 medium white onions
    1 green pepper, sliced
    1 sweet red pepper
    1/3 c. salt
    3 c. distilled white vinegar
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers thin.
    Layer cukes, onions, peppers and salt in pan or crock-pot.
    Not aluminum!
    Place a layer of ice in between each layer (approximately 4 layers).
    Chill for 3 hours or refrigerate overnight.
    Drain.
    Prepare syrup mixture of remaining ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture.
    Heat to boiling. Cook 3 minutes until heated through.
    Seal in sterilized jars. Makes 8 pints.
