Apple Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 to 5 cooking apples (depending on size)
    3/4 c. plus 1 tsp. granulated sugar (if you like tart pie)
    ground nutmeg (optional)
    ground cinnamon (optional)
    milk
    unbaked pie shell
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
    Peel, core and slice apples.
    Mix with 3/4 cup sugar and place in unbaked pie shell.
    If desired, sprinkle with nutmeg and cinnamon.
    Cover with top crust and crimp edges firmly.
    Make several slits in top to allow steam to escape. Brush top with milk.
    Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar.
    Bake 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350\u00b0 and cook 50 minutes more.
    Serve hot with Vermont cheese.
    Yields one 9-inch pie.
