Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 meaty ham bone
    3 qt. water
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1 pkg. dry green split peas
    2 medium onions, chopped
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    If you wish the soup to cook quickly, soak the peas in water overnight.
    Drain.
    Put peas and ham in water.
    Add onions and celery.
    Bring to a boil and simmer slowly, stirring occasionally, until peas have disintegrated and turned to mush.
    Add seasonings to taste.
    Serves 8 to 10.
